I'd like to get an idea if I will need to repaint all my trim, doors, and ceiling if I go with Delicate White (or Radisson) on my cabinets. I would also love to get the same information on Kelly-Moore Swiss Coffee (KM 23), which is hands down the most popular color of trim in my area, and what I currently have on my trim, doors, and ceiling. Specifically, I would really appreciate the "DNA" on PPG's Radisson (PPG1013-1) to see how it compares to Delicate White (the current top contender). I'm getting my oak cabinets painted white, and there are a few whites that haven't been mentioned in this thread that I would like to get the chroma values of. Sawaya for all of the information and insight you have provided. This thread has been one of the most informative things I've read regarding white paint. In comparison to Delicate White, it will look more creamy, less "true" white. Secondly, it's a PPG home color and you don't have to go thru any color matching gymnastics to get your color.Īnd Gypsum belongs to the Yellow hue family right on the cusp of the Green-Yellow hue family. It fits the hue family and chroma criteria that I came up with based on what you've written here. I'd choose Delicate White for two reasons. Are these others too bright? Maybe PPG Gypsum - anyone know what undertones it has? (BM Simply White was on the list but I'm worried about green undertones). I think (?) I'm debating between PPG Delicate White, SW Pure White. So, in summary, you want a white from the GY hue family neighborhood with a low degree of grayness but not so low that it looks stark and cold. It helps if you think of chroma as a dial and you can turn it up to make a color of white cleaner and brighter or turn it down to make it dirtier and grayer. Instead, know that when it comes to color - even colors of white - there are varying degrees of grayness. Again, thinking about it that way will mess with your head and makes it impossible to organize different colors of white so you can compare them intelligently. It is impossible for a color to have a "gray undertone". Because colors from the GY hue family are perceived as being "true" white or "just" white. That's all you need to remember about how to choose a white paint color - interior or exterior, for anything.īased on what you said you don't want, you'd probably prefer a white from the green-yellow (GY) hue family. Thinking about color in terms of undertones confuses and misleads because it's not how color really works.Įvery color of white belongs to a hue family. You gotta let go of the undertones thing. We are needing to pick a color (first) to paint the exterior of our modern farmhouse build and I do not want creamy or green/gray/blue/pink undertones.I want WHITE but is there such a thing as too bright? I'm about to lose my mind with how much time I've spent researching WHITE paint, and buying samples.although I have learned a lot.
